Slow herbalism crafted in ceremony
Where the plants speak gently, and we choose to gently listen
Enter this sacred spaceWelcome to this sacred space where slow medicine and Mother Earth's teachings hold us close.
omâmâwaw, meaning "mother" in Cree, is a space of return. A return to Mother Earth, to the remembrance of who we are, to the unbroken lineages of Indigenous women who have tended bodies, hearts, and land since time immemorial.
Every offering here is made slowly, relationally, with mother-like care. Created on Treaty Six Territory (amiskwacîwâskahikan / Edmonton, Alberta), each medicine honors Métis-Cree lineage, maternal ancestral lines, and the sacred relationship between ourselves and the land.
May you feel held here. May you remember that you've never been separate from your mother, the Earth.
Every medicine is prepared through ceremony, with tobacco offerings and gratitude. We honor the sacred act of tending to our bodies and hearts.
We harvest with permission, offering tobacco and prayers. The plants are our kin and teachers. We listen before we take.
Medicines infuse over many moons. We follow seasonal rhythms, allowing time for the plants to share their full wisdom.
This work honors the unbroken lineages of Indigenous women, the grandmothers, mothers, and aunties who have carried this knowledge forward.
"Mother Earth mothers us all. Every time we return to her, we return to the remembrance of who we are."
Made slowly and ceremonially. Offered to you in reverence.

Métis-Cree iskwêw, educator, and herbalist rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing.
Melissa Scott is a Métis-Cree iskwêw (woman) from amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton), with family roots in manitow sâkahikan (Lac Ste. Anne) in Treaty 6 Territory. She is a university instructor in Indigenous Studies and Women's and Gender Studies, as well as an herbalist whose work is rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, Indigenous plant knowledge, and land-based teachings. Her herbal practice is informed by learning from Elders and Knowledge Keepers, self-study, herbal programs, and ongoing teachings from the plants themselves.
As an educator, she holds space for critical reflection and remembrance; as an herbalist, she works with plants as living teachers, approaching medicine-making as a practice of listening and connection with kin.
Grounded in her identity as an Indigenous woman and in her relationship with okâwîmâwaskiy — Mother Earth — Melissa's work is guided by a belief that healing and nourishment are acts of return. She creates herbal offerings with reverence and ceremony, each one infused with nurturing, nourishing, motherly care.
Across classrooms, community and ceremonial spaces, and her work with plants, she creates space for people to soften, reconnect with themselves, and remember their belonging to the living world.
